MILAN – Robin Gosens has uttered his first words as an Inter player. The German wing-back spoke to Inter TV in his first interview since putting pen to paper with the Nerazzurri. The 27-year-old discussed his emotions, feelings and desire to kickstart a new adventure with his new club.
How does it feel to be at Inter and what does the club mean to you? “I’m so proud to have joined one of the biggest clubs in Europe. I’m thrilled to be here and can’t wait to get started.”
Have you had a chance to speak to Simone Inzaghi? What did you say to each other and how excited are you to work with him? “Yes, we spoke on a video call last night. He told me what he expects of me and I told him a bit about my ideas. We’re very excited to work together and I can’t wait to get out on to the pitch with the team and the boss.”
You’re now reunited with Alessandro Bastoni, having played together in Bergamo. Has he told you about what it means to play for Inter? Did he help you make the decision to come here? “We’ve been speaking almost every day, not just now. Even two or three years ago, he told me it was a great club and how proud you feel to play for Inter. It wasn’t a difficult decision for me. I didn’t need any convincing because I also know it’s a huge club. He told me about the club’s history, the team, the way you work here and I’m pleased to have spoken to him.”
Inter have a longstanding tradition of German players and a special link with the country. How proud are you to follow in the footsteps of some of the greatest ever German players? “That’s another source of pride for me. Some incredible German players have made history at this club. I hope to be part of that myself. That’s my ambition. I’ve come here with huge desire to continue the tradition of German players and I can’t wait.”
Last year you scored 11 goals in the league and you bagged nine the previous year. The record for goals by a defender in Serie A is held by Marco Materazzi who scored 12, while Giacinto Facchetti reached ten before him. Could you write a new chapter in the history of goalscoring defenders at Inter? “I hope so. It’s certainly a decent attribute of mine and I hope to score plenty of goals at San Siro because it’s a wonderful feeling and I hope to help the team in that way.”
Do you have a message for the Inter fans? “Hi Inter fans, I’m so proud and happy to be here. I can’t wait to see you all at San Siro and to give everything on the pitch for Inter.”
