MILAN – Inter kicked off 2022 with a win against Lazio at the San Siro with goals from Alessandro Bastoni and Milan Skriniar to confirm the Nerazzurri as the best attack in the competition and keep them top of the pile despite having played one game less after eight wins on the bounce.

Goals from two defenders started 2022 in the best possible way. The 2-1 win over Lazio came about thanks to a superb strike from Bastoni and a header by Skriniar, the Slovak powering home Inter’s 13th headed goal in Serie A this season – more than any other team in Europe’s top five leagues.
For Skriniar it was his third goal in 18 appearances in the league, all of which have come from his head and equal last season’s tally from 32 games in Serie A.
BASTONI’S GOAL-ASSIST COMBO
It was an unforgettable match for Alessandro Bastoni. The defender opened the scoring and provided the perfect assist for Skriniar’s goal as well making important tackles alongside his attacking contributions from the wing.
His was a total game and for the first time in Serie A he was on the scoresheet as well as providing an assist in the same match.
MILESTONES FOR BARELLA, GAGLIARDINI, DARMIAN
Three Nerazzurri players reached important milestones during the win against the Biancocelesti. Roberto Gagliardini, named in Simone Inzaghi’s starting line-up, played his 150th game for Inter in all competitions, Matteo Darmian celebrated his 250th match across Europe’s top five leagues and Nicolo Barella started his 100th game in the famous colours of the Nerazzurri.
