With just the clash between Atalanta v Villarreal still to be played at 19:00 CET today after it was initially postponed due to snow, the participants in the round of 16 in the Champions League are almost confirmed. With Inter finishing second in Group D, the team’s next opponents in the knockout stage will be revealed in the draw at 12:00 CET in Nyon on Monday 13 December. It’ll be the club’s first appearance in the round of 16 since the tie with Marseille back in the 2011/12 campaign.
SIX POSSIBLE OPPONENTS FOR INTER
Having finished second in the group, Inter will meet a group-winner in the next stage. There are six possible opponents, given that UEFA regulations state it is not possible for two teams from the same country to face each other (Juventus finished top of Group H) or to face a side from your group.
Inter’s six possible opponents are: Ajax, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Lille, Manchester City, Manchester United.
Manchester City are the only possible last-16 opponent that the Nerazzurri have never previously faced in European competition.
The first leg will be played at San Siro.
