Nicolo Barella will be staying at Inter until 2026 after signing on the dotted line again for his boyhood club.
After putting pen to paper, he took to Inter's social-media accounts with a message for the supporters:
“I'm delighted to have extended my contract so I can keep fighting for the Inter cause. All the best to Nerazzurri fans and Forza Inter!"
Barella joined Inter from his hometown side Cagliari in the summer of 2019. Having made his Serie A debut with the Sardinian outfit in 2015, he went on to become their youngest-ever captain. 112 games and seven goals later, he made the switch to Inter, debuting in a 4-0 win over Lecce on 26 August 2019.
Since then the Italy midfielder has racked up 102 appearances in all competitions for the Nerazzurri, scoring eight goals. His first came against Slavia Prague, at San Siro in September 2019. Another three would follow in his maiden season – including one against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League quarter-finals and a stunner against Hellas Verona.
Last season Nicolo was one of the stars of our triumphant Scudetto march with 36 games and three goals – his strike in our 2-0 win over Juventus being the pick of the bunch. He thus crowned his dream of winning the Scudetto with the team he supported as a boy.
Almost machine-like in his consistency, it came as no surprise when he was named Serie A midfielder of the season for 2020/21.
Things only got better for him in the summer. A mainstay of the Italy team, he helped the Azzurri win the European Championship, weighing in with a goal against Belgium in the quarter-finals. To date, the 24-year-old has 33 Italy caps and seven goals to his name.
This season Barella has started all 15 of Inter's games so far, with a goal against Bologna and five assists.
May there be many more games, goals and seasons to come in a Nerazzurri shirt!
