MILAN – From Nicolo Barella’s piercing eyes and determination to become a footballer to Federico Dimarco wearing a stunning Inter kit from years gone by, Simone Inzaghi was tasked with recognising some of his key players from childhood photos before talking about their impact on the team in a special interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
After recognising all seven players in turn, the Nerazzurri boss described their attributes, qualities on and off the pitch and the relationship created with the squad in recent months.
Barella was described as “a top player and a wonderful human being. He feels the weight of the Inter jersey when he wears it and he’s keen to help everyone out. I’m thrilled to coach him”.
As for Dimarco, the boss said, “I really wanted to get to know him as well as possible and he’s been a revelation for me. He’s a very technical and intelligent player. He has an excellent understanding of the game and takes up the right position at each stage of the game.”
The coach then moved on to Lautaro: “He’s a complete player who feels a sense of responsibility and that he’s one of the leaders in this Inter side. He played a key role in the team’s first half of the season and he always gives his all on the pitch.”
Edin Dzeko also featured, with Inzaghi remembering derby days from years gone by: “I already knew him well from all the Rome derbies when I’d come up against him. He’s one of the best strikers in the league.”
