Find out what the boss had to say on the eve of Inter v Torino

APPIANO GENTILE – On the eve of the last game of 2021 against Torino, Simone Inzaghi spoke to Inter TV about the team’s form, heading into the winter break top of the table on 43 points, as well as having the best attack and second-best defence in the division.

Inter are preparing for the final match of the year. How pleased are you with how the team is doing?

“It’s normal to be pleased at the moment. We’re thrilled to be top of the table heading into the winter break, but we know we don’t get any trophies for that. It’s a great feeling, but it should also spur us on to achieve more.”

What’s the secret behind playing such quality football?

“We’re in good form. The players are all committed. We’re lucky enough to be working well together despite having so many fixtures to play. We’re doing well, but we know there’s still a long way to go. We’ve seen that over the first 18 games of the season the leaders have changed quickly.

“We’re on track in terms of what was asked of us, which was to get back into the last 16 in the Champions League and to be in the top four in the league, so we’re pleased. The players are working very hard and there’s motivation to keep going down this path, with all the many challenges that lie in wait.”

Could Inter’s Scudetto bid hinge on the next two months?

“There are still 20 games left, so there’s a very long way to go. We know what the schedule has in store for us, but we’re now focused on tomorrow’s game because we’re up against a team that is on the up and is very well organised.”

What’s Ivan Juric’s Torino side’s best attribute?

“They have quality players who really put in a shift and they’ve got two wins and two draws in their last four matches. They’re in good form and have a well-prepared coach whom I hold in high regard. He’s capable of getting the best out of his teams.”

Nicolo Barella will be out against Torino. Could it be the first test with Liverpool in mind?

“There’s a long way to go until the Liverpool tie and we know we’ll need to head into it in the best possible shape. We’ve seen over the last four months that you also have to have different ideas with injuries and suspensions because the team has to be able to evolve from one day to the next.”
