MILAN – Following the trip to Salernitana and a match full of goals and great play, Inter brought home the three points. Simone Inzaghi’s side scored five goals, one each from Ivan Perisic, Denzel Dumfries, Alexis Sanchez, Lautaro Martinez and Roberto Gagliardini leading to the team’s sixth consecutive victory in the league and a total of 43 points in the standings.
OVER 100 GOALS IN 2021
With the five goals put past Stefano Colantuono’s team, Inter have scored more than 100 goals in a calendar year (103 in 2021) for the first time in their Serie A history, beating their previous record of 99 goals in 1950. Inter are the fourth team in Serie A history to score at least 100 goals in a calendar year following on from AC Milan (105 in 1949 and 120 in 1950), Torino (111 in 1947 and 114 in 1948) as well as Juventus (100 in 1933).
CALHANOGLU'S STATS
Since the beginning of November 2021, Hakan Calhanoglu has been involved in more goals (10, five goals and five assists) than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues and is one of the two central midfielders with at least six goals and six assists this season, alongside Dimitri Payet. Against Salernitana he got his fifth assist from a dead ball situation in Serie A this season. No other player has more in the top five European leagues in 2021/2022 (equal to Vincenzo Grifo).
533 APPEARANCES FOR HANDANOVIC, INZAGHI’S 200TH POINTS-WINNING GAME IN SERIE A
Against Salernitana, Samir Handanovic picked up his fifth consecutive clean sheet in the league and with 533 games played, he became the sole owner of 10th place in the list of players with most appearances in Serie A, passing Enrico Albertosi (532).
Simone Inzaghi, on the other hand, picked up points for the 200th time as a manager: the Nerazzurri manager has 150 wins and 50 draws (against 75 defeats) as manager of Lazio and Inter.
THE GOALS: WHO, HOW AND WHEN
Inter secured their place as the team with the most headed goals in Europe’s top five leagues in 2021/22: 12. The Nerazzurri won an away game in Serie A by five goals for the first time since March 2018: 5-0 v Sampdoria.
Lautaro Martínez scored to put the Nerazzurri 4-0 up, making it five goals in as many games in Serie A for the Argentine forward.
Since his arrival at Inter in the 2019/2020 season, Alexis Sanchez has been involved in 24 goals from his 25 starts in Serie A (11 goals and 13 assists). This was the Chilean forwards third this campaign, his second consecutive one in his 400th start in Europe’s top five leagues.
Ivan Perisic was the maiden Nerazzurri player to score away to Salernitana. For the Croatian winger, it was his fourth goal of the season, all of which have come in Serie A, matching his total from last season (4) but in half of the games. (16 in 2021/22 and 32 in 2020/21).
Denzel Dumfries has scored two goals in Serie A, both away from home in the first half – the first coming against Roma.
