The Inter boss analysed the draw with Juve

MILAN – The 177th Derby d’Italia in Serie A ended 1-1 after Inter relinquished their lead in the 89th minute, despite not letting Juventus create many meaningful chances. Contact between Denzel Dumfries and Alex Sandro in the box allowed Max Allegri’s side a route back into the game as Paulo Dybala equalised from the spot.

Inter boss Simone Inzaghi gave his view of the contest in his post-match interview: “That was the only way we could’ve conceded a goal. We’re disappointed because we managed the game well from start to finish without giving anything away to Juventus. We’ve dropped two points and I’m not pleased about it. The referee was a couple of yards away, said everything was fine and was then called back.

“It’s disappointing for our fans who got behind us for 95 minutes and it’s disappointing for the players who controlled the game against a top side.

“We were never under the cosh. We managed the match well from start to finish,” added the boss.

“We can build on the performance because we did very well. In the first half, we pressed all over the pitch. We worked hard and knew that Juventus could bring on some dangerous players.

“We were more compact and played deeper in the second half, but we really gave away no chances to a very good side that can hurt you on the break.

“The whole team pitched in and defended well. The only disappointment tonight is the result which is harsh on us. As for taking [Ivan] Perisic off, he had a bit of muscle fatigue and was on the massage table at half time. He had signalled to me that everything was OK, but he was also on a yellow card and [Federico] Chiesa had come on.

“It’s disappointing to concede a penalty with a man advantage a few minutes before the end without giving anything else away. Seeing the referee signal that everything was fine made me angry. The red card is fair. I made a mistake, just as the referee made a mistake by signalling that everything was fine.”
