Facts and figures ahead of Sunday’s 20:45 CEST kick-off, the 177th league meeting between the two sides

MILAN - On Sunday 24 October at 20:45 CEST Inter will face Juventus at San Siro in what will be the 177th match between the two teams in the Italian top flight. Simone Inzaghi's Inter head into Serie A Matchday 9 after picking up 17 points so far, having scored 23 times and conceded 11. They face a Juventus side who have 14 points after four wins, two draws and two defeats.

PREVIOUS MATCH-UPS

Inter won their last home game against Juventus and have not achieved two consecutive wins at San Siro against the Bianconeri in Serie A since 2010. The Nerazzurri have scored two goals in each of their last two league games against Juventus: the last time Inter scored more than one goal in consecutive games against the Bianconeri in Serie A was back in 2004, when they netted three times.

Juventus have lost all their last four away games in the league involving matches against Italy’s ‘Big 7’ - Atalanta, Inter, Juventus, Lazio, Milan, Napoli and Roma. The last time they kept a clean sheet in an away match against one of those teams in Serie A was actually at San Siro, in November 2018 - but against AC Milan.

FORM BOOK

Inter go into the clash with 17 points to their name after eight league matches, having picked up five wins, drawn twice and losing once, last time out against Lazio in the Olimpico. The Nerazzurri have scored 23 goals and conceded 11 so far this season. Juventus sit on 14 points, with four wins, two draws and two defeats this campaign, scoring 12 goals and conceding 10.

Inzaghi’s team is on the best home form among the teams currently in the competition – they’ve gone 20 games without falling to defeat at San Siro. The last time the Nerazzurri went on such a good run was November 2010 when they achieved a streak of 46 games. They’ve also scored at least two goals for seven consecutive Serie A home games for the first time since February 2017.

Juventus have got exactly the same number of points as last season after the same number of games played 14. However, last season they had scored 15 goals to this season's 12 and conceded 7 to this season's 10.

STATS

Inter have scored 78 goals in 32 games across the 2021 calendar year in Serie A – out of the five major European leagues only Bayern Munich have a better record, with 89 in 29 games. Juventus have managed 64 in 33 matches.

Sunday will see the team which has scored the most goals in the second half this season (Inter, 14) against one of the sides who have scored the least (Juventus, 4). This is as few as Sassuolo, Salernitana, Empoli and Venezia. Inter and Juventus boast the best crossing accuracy percentages in the league, at 30% and 29% respectively.

Only Lazio have won more points from a losing position than Inter this season, with 11 points to the Nerazzurri’s 10. However, only Verona and Spezia have dropped more points from a winning position this season than to the Nerazzurri and Juventus, having dropped 10, 8, 7 and 7 respectively.

PLAYER FOCUS

Edin Dzeko has scored six goals in eight games this season, just one fewer than he scored in the whole of last season in Serie A in 27 appearances for Roma. With six goals, no player has scored more goals than the Bosnian striker in his first eight league appearances for Inter in the era of three points for a win, with Marco Branca, Ronaldo and Diego Milito sharing his record. The latter two also scored in the ninth appearance.

Nicolo Barella has been involved in more passages of play which ended in shot than any other midfielder in Serie A – 48 times. Only Lorenzo Insigne beats him overall, with the Napoli forward contributing on 50 occasions in this regard. The Nerazzurri number 23 and Arturo Vidal scored in the last Serie A home match against Juventus: the last Inter midfielder to score in two consecutive seasons against the Bianconeri at San Siro was Lothar Matthaus in 1989/90 and 1990/91.

Arturo Vidal made 124 appearances for Juventus in Serie A between 2011 and 2015, scoring 35 league goals.

The only Serie A game in which Matteo Darmian both scored a goal and provided a winning assist was against Juventus, in April 2015 while playing for Torino.

Alexis Sanchez has scored twice against Juventus in Serie A: however the most recent occasion was back in January 2011 when he was at Udinese. The Chilean also made his Serie A debut against Juventus in September 2008 while playing for the same club.

The next time Milan Skriniar is on the winning side in Serie A it will be his 100th victory in the competition. 88 of the first 99 came during his time with the Nerazzurri; no other outfield player has managed so many since he made his debut with Inter in 2017/18.
