MILAN – A marvellous left-footed volley by Edin Dzeko gave Inter the lead against Sheriff in a match that the Nerazzurri went on to win 3-1. The number 9, who now has seven goals to his name this term, also registered an assist for Arturo Vidal as part of a complete performance.
Inter were desperate to break their Champions League duck this season, while Dzeko hadn’t scored in Europe’s elite club competition since 2018 with Roma. The Bosnian spoke to Sky Sport after the game.
“We were angry because we deserved much more in Rome, but when you lose an important game, it’s important to pick yourself straight back up and do as we did today. We played well from the first minute and that was key considering we only had one point in the group.
“We’re still on track. It was a game that could’ve seen us get all but knocked out. They’re on six points and nobody expected that, but they showed how dangerous they can be on the counter. We did well overall and deserved the win.
“As for my goal, sometimes you miss easy chances and score more difficult ones. What matters is getting among the goals and clinching the three points. Inter are still a strong side; we just need to concede fewer goals. It’s a shame we conceded again tonight after a performance like that. Having said that, we are improving and we’re doing better in every game.”
