Lautaro Martinez and Joaquin Correa both played in Argentina’s win over Mattias Vecino’s Uruguay, while Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal featured for Chile

Five Inter players were involved in 2022 World Cup qualifiers in South America late on Sunday night, with Lautaro Martinez, Joaquin Correa, Mattias Vecino, Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal all featuring.

Martinez played a key role as Argentina beat Uruguay 3-0 in Buenos Aires. After Leo Messi had given the home side the lead, Martinez set up Rodrigo De Paul for the second before wrapping up the contest by scoring the third himself. The striker was then brought off for club team-mate Correa on 65 minutes. Vecino started for Uruguay and played the full 90 minutes in the defeat.

Sanchez and Vidal both started for Chile as they beat Paraguay 2-0 in Santiago. Ben Brereton gave Chile the lead on 69 minutes, before Sanchez set up Mauricio Isla to make it 2-0 just three minutes later. Sanchez was brought off in the third minute of second-half stoppage time, with Vidal playing the full match.

Below are the standings in the South American World Cup qualifying group.

Brazil 28 Argentina 22 Ecuador 16 Uruguay 16 Colombia 15 Paraguay 12 Peru 11 Chile 10 Bolivia 9 Venezuela 7

(top four qualify for the World Cup, fifth-placed team goes to a play-off)
