Renewed energy and impetus in Bulgaria

The Inter Campus team has made the trip from Bucharest to Sofia, Bulgaria, a melting pot of different communities and cultures, to kickstart its activities in the country after the long, enforced break.

A European Union Member State since 2007, Bulgaria still lags far behind the EU average when it comes to the country’s economy. Poverty and neglect are real issues in this nation, which fuses both East and West – its official religion is Christianity, yet minarets can be seen everywhere you turn.

Now, with schools reopening, Inter Campus has finally been able to return to Bulgaria to resume its activities.

Our aims haven’t changed: we want to use football to supplement the children’s education and provide coaching training to local instructors, with the overall objective of overcoming physical and mental barriers and boosting social inclusion and ethnic integration.

To coincide with our visit, after nearly two years of remote activities, we were able to organise a week of practical training sessions at the Inter Campus centres at the state orphanage in Dupnitsa and a village near Plovdiv.
