Inter Campus Romania: the long - awaited return
Community
— Sep 27th 2021Schools are going back and football activities are resuming in Romania
After an enforced two-year pause, Inter Campus are back on the ground in Romania to work across the three sites operating in the Eastern European country.
There has been constant dialogue with our partners in Romania over the past two years, with Inter Campus using technology to keep in touch with its contacts on the ground while the pandemic made it impossible for activities to continue.
After arriving in Bucharest, the team ran two training sessions at the Marcellino orphanage, which is home to 32 young people. Many of this group have been with Inter Campus since they were six years old, so it was brilliant to see how they had progressed since we’d last seen them. Another group of children joined these sessions from the Pinocchio child support centre.
We then headed west, to Slatina, where our work is sponsored by Pirelli. Local project leader Mihaela Jonus and general manager Davide Meda were there to meet our delegation, ahead of two days of training sessions with three local coaches and around 70 boys and girls.
Next we turned north-east, heading for the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains and the town of Valcea, where we ran several more sessions with around 100 local children and two local coaches. On our last day in the country, we all went on a visit to the local salt mines, which are used as a stunning venue for sports events.
