APPIANO GENTILE - Simone Inzaghi appeared at a pre-match press conference on Friday ahead of the visit of Atalanta to San Siro on Saturday evening (18:00 CEST kick-off).
See below for Inzaghi’s remarks from the Suning Training Centre.
What impressed you the most about the reaction against Fiorentina on Tuesday?
“It was important that we kept our composure and stayed in the game when Fiorentina caused us problems in the first half an hour. There was a great reaction there, worthy of a very good side. We got the win at a tough ground and we’re happy with that. And now we have another equally challenging game tomorrow.”
Given that you’re playing so many games at the moment, will you rotate the side?
“We have an important training session today. I’ll be able to assess the general state of the team, then tomorrow I’ll make a call on the line-up.”
What kind of game are you expecting tomorrow?
“Atalanta are an excellent side. They don’t give away anything for free so we need to make sure we do the same. I think hunger and desire to win every ball in these games are key.”
You’ve scored 18 goals in five games, with 11 different goalscorers. That must make you very happy…
“Of course, because I try to get everyone involved. I’m lucky to have excellent players who always step up regardless of who starts and who comes on. With five subs now, you have fewer and fewer set starters. You need everyone and everyone is giving off great signals.”
You’ve showcased some really promising options in attack so far…
“We trying to work on a lot of different options. I’m lucky that the team was already very well-drilled, with a very open attitude. We’re trying to add new ideas and keep progressing.”
What does the team need to do in Kyiv in the Champions League on Tuesday?
“It’s hard to think about the Champions League because we’re focused on Atalanta. We’re focusing on the here and now – and that’s the league.”
