APPIANO GENTILE – After winning the applause of Nerazzurri fans with a goal and an assist on his debut against Genoa, summer signing Edin Dzeko spoke to Inter TV.
How did you feel making your league debut for Inter?
It was an emotional day because after playing the whole of last season without fans it was so good to see them back in the stands. It was my first game for Inter, and my mum was at the stadium too. It was an important game for us and we played very well to win so convincingly, and it felt great to score too, which I had been looking forward to so much.
How did it feel when you scored?
I hadn’t scored in Serie A for so long. My last goals for Roma were in the Europa League, so it was also important for me to get off the mark for that reason. Scoring on my debut at my new home ground in front of the fans was fantastic and it gave me even more confidence for the future.
There’s also a strong connection with your team-mates...
Yes, I could already see that against Dynamo Kyiv. I felt it on the pitch and it seemed as if I’d been playing with these lads for such a long time, but I must say that it’s not difficult. There are so many top players here and that’s one of the reasons why I joined the club. I really enjoyed myself not only in the match against Genoa, but also against Dynamo Kyiv. We’re a strong team and we want to continue down this path, with things kicking off very nicely against Genoa.
You’ll need another big performance on Friday against Hellas Verona.
Every match and every point is important. Inter are the Italian champions and the upcoming game against Hellas Verona won’t be easy. I know their coach well and he really gets the players up for it, but we’re Inter, we’re ready and we want to get a good result ahead of the international break.
