The Nerazzurri were defeated in the semi-final by Empoli, who scored in the last minute of extra time

SASSUOLO - At the Ricci stadium in Sassuolo, Inter were beaten in the last minute by Empoli, who won 3-2. After going behind initially, the Nerazzurri overturned the game with goals from Zanotti and Vezzoni. Asllani found an equaliser with a free kick in the 81st minute and, at the very end of extra time, Manfredi scored the winning goal.

In the opening minutes of play, the two teams tried to push and both created important opportunities: A great header by Satriano for Inter and Baldanzi with a powerful shot for Empoli. Empoli then took the lead in 13th minute, with Lipari taking advantage of a lucky rebound in the Nerazzurri box and sticking it in the net. The Nerazzurri found an equaliser in the 34th minute with a great action: First Oristanio tested Hvalic, but on the rebound Vezzoni managed to put the ball back into the area for Zanotti to head into the net.

Armando Madonna's team managed to flip the scoreline in just a few minutes, as they then took the lead in the 37th minute with Vezzoni making the most of Casadei's soft shot following the developments of a throw-in. An excellent save by Stankovic in the 39th minute on Lipari kept the scoreline at 2-1. In injury time, the Nerazzurri captain was once again the star with a great save on Ekong.

After the teams emerged from the locker room, Empoli went seeking an equaliser, but Kinkoue denied Ekong on a couple of dangerous occasions. A golden opportunity came Inter’s way in the 65th minute but Oristanio failed to beat Hvalic. Empoli found the equaliser in the 81st minute with a great free-kick from Asllani that Stankovic could do nothing about. Regular time ended with the score at 2-2.

Extra time began with a great opportunity for Empoli, as Baldanzi smacked the ball off the post. The Nerazzurri tried to move in front on 106 minutes with Bonfanti, who unfortunately could not take advantage of the opportunity. Down by two men, Inter were unable to materialise the win, and in the 120th minute, following a corner kick, Manfredi scored the goal that brings Empoli to the final.
