ROME – It was another fantastic evening for Roberto Mancini’s Italy at Euro 2020: the Azzurri beat Switzerland 3-0 at the Olimpico on matchday two in Group A to secure their spot in the last 16 of the competition with a game to spare. The team’s showdown against Wales at 18:00 CEST on Sunday will decide whether they progress as the group winners or runners-up.
Nicolò Barella was a key figure during the clash against the Swiss: the Inter midfielder played 87 minutes and put in a selfless display, also providing the assist for Locatelli to make it 2-0. He was substituted late on after winning the ball back for the umpteenth time and picking up a knock after a coming together with Embolo.
The Azzurri’s performance was a dominant one: after Chiellini had seen his finish ruled out for handball, Locatelli opened the scoring in the first half. After the restart, the Sassuolo bagged his and Italy’s second, while Immobile then added a third. It finished 3-0.
Alessandro Bastoni remained on the bench.
