SAINT PETERSBURG - A goal of his own making, in some ways similar to the one scored this season against Atalanta. When Milan Skriniar gets into the opponent's box he has a radar, a feel for the ball. And his shots, not just his headers, are never trivial. A beautiful right-footed shot, after controlling it in the air: A stop and shot, from a centre forward’s position, into the corner. The goal from Skriniar gave Slovakia a 2-1 win over Poland on the first day of Group E at the European Championships.
A match of many shades of the tricolours: Many starts in the match all play in the Italian league. Szczesny's own goal opens the scoring on 18 minutes: A shot that came back off the post by Mak and took an involuntary deflection into his own goal by the Juventus goalkeeper.
The Poland equaliser at the start of the second half was scored by Linetty of Torino. Poland, however, were reduced to ten men for a second yellow shown to Krychowiak. Skriniar’s pearl came in the 69th minute: He collected a corner from the right, stopped and hit it from about 15 yards out, finding the right corner, to seal a final scoreline of 2-1 (Group E also includes Spain and Sweden). The Nerazzurri defender played all 90 minutes and was named the STAR OF THE MATCH, the best performer on the pitch.
Well done, Milan!
