ROME - A dream start to EURO 2020 for Roberto Mancini's Italy. The Azzurri beat Turkey by three goals to nil at the Olimpico in the opening match of the 16th edition of the tournament.
Nicolò Barella was one of the central figures in the win for the Azzurri; the Inter midfielder started and played the full 90 minutes. He also had a hand in Italy's second and third goals in the second half, starting both moves, which secured all three points for the Azzurri. He grew into the game and, after the break, ran the show in the centre of the park.
It was a vital 3-0 win for Mancini's side in the first game in Group A (which also includes Switzerland and Wales. Three goals in the second half, with an own goal from Demiral and finishes from Immobile and Insigne.
Barella played the whole game, while Alessandro Bastoni remained an unused substitute. italy are back in action on Wednesday 16 at the Olimpico against Switzerland.
