MILAN – Personal and team records, ruthlessness, sacrifice and discipline. The Nerazzurri had to display various qualities to win the 2020/21 Scudetto, with the team going down a path that involved difficulties but managing to really assert themselves at crucial moments in the season.

Inter are the side that covered the most distance: an average of 112,484 km per game. Out of those who played at least 1000 minutes, Marcelo Brozovic is the player with the highest figure in this regard: on average, the Croat ran 11,929 km per match.

After picking up a total of 91 points, the Nerazzurri surpassed the 90-point mark in a single Serie A season for the second time in their history after previously finishing with a tally of 97 in 2006/07. Inter collected more points than any other side in the Top 5 European leagues, with Manchester City, Atletico Madrid (both 86) and Lille (83) following behind.

Inter had the best defence in Serie A, only conceding 35. Furthermore, the Nerazzurri are the team that kept the most clean sheets (14), including eleven in 2021. Across the Top 5 European leagues, they’ve recorded the third most shutouts during the current year.

Inter scored 89 goals in Serie A, one fewer than Atalanta (90). Lukaku and Lautaro found the net 41 times, making them the most prolific front pairing in the division. They also set each other up to score on eight occasions, more than any other attacking duo in the Italian top flight. The Belgian man was on the scoresheet 24 times and picked out a teammate to score on eleven occasions, more than any of his Nerazzurri teammates. He thus became the first player to score at least 20 goals and register at least ten assists in a single Serie A season since 2004/05.

The Argentine scored 17 goals in Italy’s top division. Four of these came from headers, more than any other Inter player. Lautaro Martinez was also the only player in the squad to not miss a single game, making 38 appearances in 38 league games.

The goals scored, however, by Inter during the 2020/21 season were a joint effort. 17 different players found the net in the top flight, eleven of whom scored at least three goals: Lukaku, Lautaro, Hakimi, Sanchez, Skriniar, Darmian, Perisic, D’Ambrosio, Eriksen, Gagliardini and Barella.

The Nerazzurri really stamped their mark in the second half of the season: from 29/30 January to the end of the season, they gained 50 points – at least seven more than any other side – and they became the first team to win all eleven of their first eleven Serie A games in the latter half of the season (the second best series of consecutive wins in a single Serie A campaign after 17 in 2006/07).
