— May 13th 2021The facts and figures you need to know following the Champions of Italy's 3-1 victory over Roma
The Champions of Italy continue to march on unrelentingly. After their thumping 5-1 victory over Sampdoria, the Nerazzurri beat Roma 3-1 yesterday evening to move up to 88 points in the league. Since the start of the three-points-per-win era, only in 2006/07 – the season of their 15th Scudetto triumph – have Inter picked up more points in a Serie A campaign (97 points after 38 matches). The win against the Giallorossi means that Conte’s men have beaten 18 teams in the league this season. The only side they’re yet to get the better of is Udinese, who they’ll face at San Siro on the final day. Furthermore, they’ve put an end to a bit of a hoodoo against Roma: their last six matches against the Giallorossi had ended in draws.
Inter have also now won 15 consecutive matches at home. Prior to this season, the Club record was 13 successive wins at San Siro, which was achieved in 2011. The Serie A record is Juventus’ 17 consecutive home victories in 2017.
CONTE, 100 MATCHES IN CHARGE OF INTER
The match against Roma was Antonio Conte’s 100th in charge of the Nerazzurri. Since his first game in 2019 (a 4-0 victory over Lecce), Conte has been in the dugout for 74 fixtures in Serie A, eight in the Coppa Italia, twelve in the Champions League and six in the Europa League. So far, his record stands at 63 wins, 23 draws and 14 defeats. After 100 matches, Conte is the tactician who has picked up the most victories with the Nerazzurri since 1929/30 (José Mourinho follows behind on 60).
RADU'S FIRST START
Ionut Radu made his third Inter appearance yesterday evening: after making his debut in 2016 and playing the second half against Sampdoria, the Romanian goalkeeper made his first Nerazzurri start. Radu took to the pitch at the age of 23 years and 349 days. Since the 1994/95 campaign, Inter have only had one younger goalkeeper start between the sticks in Serie A: Sebastian Frey (19 years and 16 days).
LUKAKU, NOT JUST A GOALSCORER
Romelu Lukaku has scored 28 times this season, 22 of which have come in the league. 15 of his Serie A goals this campaign have been at San Siro: following on from Christian Vieri (19 in 2002/03), Diego Milito (17 in 2011/12 and Mauro Icardi (16 in 2016/17 and 2017/18), the Belgian has become the fourth Nerazzurri player to find the net at least 15 times at home in a single top-flight season in the past 45 years.
Prior to scoring against Roma, Lukaku provided a fantastic assist for Vecino to make it 2-0. A typical lay-off from the striker, who has now set up a teammate to score on eleven occasions in the league this season. Since 2004/05, no Inter player has registered more assists in a single Serie A season (Maicon also provided eleven in 2009/10).
VECINO, GOALSCORING SUCCESS AGAINST THE TEAMS FROM THE CAPITAL
We all remember Matias Vecino’s goal in Lazio 2-3 Inter in Rome. The Uruguayan likes to score against the teams from Italy’s capital. Vecino has bagged nine goals for the Nerazzurri in Serie A, three of which have come against against Roma, making the Giallorossi his favourite victim in the Inter shirt. Out of the 18 goals he’s netted in the Italian top flight, six have been against either Roma or Lazio.
