— May 9th 2021All the facts and figures you need to know following the Nerazzurri's 5-1 victory over Sampdoria
Inter’s first outing as Italian champions was a truly triumphant one, with the Nerazzurri running out 5-1 winners against Sampdoria at San Siro. It was a dominant display from Antonio Conte’s side, who set a new Club record of 14 consecutive home wins in the league. The last time they failed to win at San Siro was on 31 October 2020, when they played out a 2-2 draw with Parma.
THE ALEXIS SHOW
Yesterday, Alexis scored his second brace of the season and moved up to seven goals for the current campaign in the process. The Chilean hadn’t found the net since March, when he also scored twice against Parma. Significantly, he’s now contributed to 20 goals in 21 starts for Inter in the Italian top flight (nine goals, eleven assists).
RADU AND PINAMONTI, NEW BEGINNINGS
Ionut Radu’s Inter debut came on 14 May 2016, when the Nerazzurri played Sassuolo away from home. Back then, he was about to turn 19. Five years later, Radu made his second Nerazzurri appearance after coming on at half-time against Sampdoria.
It’s a similar story for Pinamonti, a player who, just like Radu, came through the Nerazzurri’s youth ranks. Against Ranieri’s side, the Italian bagged his first Inter goal on his 13th Nerazzurri appearance (he’s played a total of eight times this campaign). Six of Andrea Pinamonti’s eleven Serie A goals have arrived after he’s come off the bench. You can read his post-match interview here.
GAGLIARDINI'S GOALSCORING SUCCESS AGAINST TEAMS FROM... GENOA
Gagliardini broke the deadlock after just a few minutes and scored his third goal of the season in the process. Out of his 14 goals in Serie A, seven have come against teams from the city of Genoa: Genoa (five) and Sampdoria (two). The Italian scored and provided an assist yesterday evening, with his goal coming following an assist from Young. It’s not the first time that this duo have combined. Indeed, three of Roberto Gagliardini’s last four Serie A goals have been set up by Ashley Young.
LAUTARO AND MORE FUN FACTS
Lautaro Martinez is one of three players that have scored at least six goals with both their right and left feet this Serie A season. The other two are Romelu Lukaku and Luis Muriel.
Prior to yesterday’s match, the last time that Inter had scored in the opening nine minutes in a league fixture was when Lukaku netted in the first minute against Genoa in February.
The showdown against Sampdoria saw Inter score at least three first-half goals in a Serie A match for the first time since September 2020 (four vs. Benevento).
200 SERIE A MATCHES FOR CONTE
Yesterday, Antonio Conte took charge of his 200th Serie A game as a coach. He’s become the tactician with the most wins from their first 200 matches in the Italian top flight since the three-points-per-win era began (136).
