Thanks, dad, for making me an Interista!

— Mar 19th 2021Today is Father's Day in Italy and we want to mark it with a few words from Gianfelice Facchetti on his own legendary father and the Nerazzurri colours
Some images speak a thousand words and words that conjure images in your mind. Those that are with us today belong to Gianfelice Facchetti and are dedicated to his unforgettable father Giacinto. They are born from a photo that will resonate with millions of fathers and children the world over. This portrait is titled “A pitch, a ball, dad and me as a child”. You can see the simplicity of the moment, which is testimony to a connection for the person, who more than any of us can explain how the values of Interismo are passed down through the generations, from father to son.
“There are photos - like this one - that typify the sense of history, in which I have always walked alongside the millions of Nerazzurri. A pitch, a ball, dad and me as a child. In the background is the main building at Pinetina, which, to my eyes, always seemed like an impregnable fortress inhabited by muscular giants, who seemed invincible at first glance. Holding us together were five letters, one of the first words I ever said... INTER, the star acting as the intermediary between us and the universe. We grew up with Inter, learning to walk and dream. We appreciated the meaning of difficult words like respect and glory. We became adults there by way of challenges worthy of our champions and our history. We identified with our flag so much that we’d carry it around the world among the people because, as you said, “being an Interista is a distinctive mark” the goes beyond the pitch and resounds in life. Sometimes, it would end in goals and celebrations but whether we won or not, what mattered was being at our best without ever settling, like Inter now. And here I am, here to say thanks to you once again, dad, for making me an Interista. Te voeuri ben [I love you].”
