2011/12: Inter beat Genoa 5-4 in the highest-scoring game for the Nerazzurri in 76 years

MILAN – On the first day in April in 2012, the fifth ever game to end 5-4 in Nerazzurri history was played at San Siro; the previous home game to end with the same scoreline was in the 1932/33 season: Ambrosiana Inter 5-4 Milan FC. Inter - in their first outing under Stramaccioni - were inspired by a beloved player at both clubs: Diego Milito. Il Principe was the key figure in a match dominated by Argentines, which also saw Forlan score and grab an assist with Stankovic on the scoresheet too. As the first half drew to a close, Lucio assisted Samuel to score and Moretti hit the back of the net for the Grifone. There was plenty more emotion after the break, with four penalties given and both sides ending the game with ten men. In the midst of all that, more Argentine goals; Zarate and Milito for his hattrick scored for the Nerazzurri - the latter was the final goal of the game and put a stop to any though of a Genoa comeback. It ended 5-4 with all three points going to Inter.
