In 1996 goals from Zamorano, Ince and Djorkaeff saw off the Bianconeri

After the 1-2 home defeat, Inter are faced with a tough task: to reach the Coppa Italia final, Antonio Conte's team will have to beat Juventus by two clear goals or by scoring at least three goals. Scoring at least three goals in Turin is not exactly an easy task, and historically Inter have succeeded in doing so seven times out of 118 confrontations.

In recent history in the Coppa Italia, specifically in the 2015/16 season, Inter came close to completing a sensational comeback: after a 3-0 defeat in Turin, the team coached by Mancini won 3-0 at San Siro, only to go out (in the semi-final) on penalties.

Throughout various Nerazzurri raids in Turin, with goalscorers such as Cruz and Balotelli, there is one that is a sweet memory but also an example to look back on for inspiration.

On 13 November 1996, an Inter side coached by Roy Hodgson took on Juventus at the Delle Alpi in the first leg of the quarterfinals. A Derby D’Italia in the Cup, a fixture not to be missed.

JUVENTUS: Rampulla, Porrini, Ferrara , Iuliano, Torricelli, Lombardo (Di Livio 63'), Deschamps, Zidane (Padovano 46'), Tacchinardi, Del Piero, Vieri C. (Jugovic 63').INTER: Pagliuca, Angloma, Paganin M. (Berti 81'), Galante, Pistone, Zanetti J., Ince, Fresi, Winter, Djorkaeff, Zamorano (Ganz 82').

These are the teams sent out by Marcello Lippi and by Hodgson, with Inter organizing a perfect and effective match plan. The high pressure of Juventus was used as a weapon to hit the Bianconeri with continuous and lethal counter attacks.

Massimo Paganin, on the pitch that day, helps us to remember that perfect Nerazzurri night: "That Inter team was going through a re-build: Moratti had recently arrived and Hodgson was giving the team character. There was a gap that needed to be filled with some more prepared line-ups, but an important backbone to the team was being born: solid foundations were being laid, just think of Zanetti, who was gradually increasing his influence on the pitch, becoming a mainstay".

"The match in Turin, like all those against Juventus, had to be faced with determination, competitive malice and the desire to win. All characteristics that we were able to bring out on the pitch that evening: we worked with great conviction, exploiting the chances to counterattack. We managed to put Juve in difficulty, winning 3-0".

Yes, 3-0 in Turin, in a match that began with an early scare with Tacchinardi's shot hitting off the crossbar, but the opening goal was scored by Zamorano: Fresi’s invention perfectly puts through Pistone on the left wing and, sprinting at great speed, he puts the ball in the centre and the Chilean slots it away with ease.

In the second half it is Paul Ince, with a header, who makes it 2-0: a goal of power and desire, capped off with a true and special Interista celebration. All before the icing on the cake: Youri Djorkaeff's volleyed goal with his right foot from the edge of the area, a masterfully coordinated shot. He saluted the Nerazzurri fans and sealed a 3-0 win in Turin. The return leg at San Siro ended 1-1, and qualification to the next round was secured.
