Lautaro: "Winning is more important than scoring goals. I'm happy here"

MILAN - He went close in the first half but really kicked on the second, scoring the goal to make it 2-0 before getting the assist for Lukaku’s strike which made it 3-0. Lautaro Martinez made his mark in the win against Benevento as the match turned out to be a comfortable and routine 4-0 win. It was El Toro’s tenth goal of this league campaign and his eleventh in all competitions. He’s now the youngest player to have hit double figures this Serie A season and the fourth-youngest player to have done so in Europe’s Top Five leagues in the 2020/21 season. 

The Argentine spoke to DAZN after the match: “Today was a tough game in the first half,” hebegan. “We scored a goal from a free kick and then managed the game well. In the second half, the goals that hadn't been coming earlier arrived.” 

“I’m happy with the goal but Inter winning is the important thing. We’re a united group, and we work so that we can always give our best. I can be more clinical in front of goal, I’m looking to improve. I want to improve every day and always give my best for Inter.” 

On his understanding with Lukaku: “Romelu is so important for us and he showed it again today. He scored two goals and always works for the team, but the result is the most important thing for both of us.” 

Finally, on his contract renewal:“I’m happy here: the fans show their love, while the Coach and Club have faith in me. There are no problems, and I’m just thinking about what happens on the pitch.”
