Twelve clashes between the Nerazzurri and Viola, the last one was a year ago

Fiorentina vs. Inter in the Coppa Italia: Monday's game at the Franchi (15:00 CET) will be the thirteenth meeting between the two sides in the competition. The Viola currently shade the head-to-head: four Inter wins, three draws and five wins for Fiorentina. The most recent tie between the two. Inter have won all of their last three Cup fixtures against Fiorentina after the Viola had won both of the previous two (1995/96). Inter have only won one in Florence in the Coppa Italia: 2010 thanks to Samuel Eto'o.

2020 | BARELLA FROM RANGE

In January 2020, Inter and Fiorentina faced off in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals; the Nerazzurri won 2-1 and secured passage to the semis. Inter took the lead through Candreva, Caceres levelled it up and Barella scored a scorching winner from outside the box.

2010 | MILITO AND ETO'O, ON THE WAY TO THE TREBLE

In February 2010, Inter and Fiorentina met in the Coppa Italia semi-finals, both home and away. Inter won at San Siro thanks to a Diego Milito goal, while Samuel Eto'o left his mark on the game at the Franchi: 1-0 to Inter in both legs and the Nerazzurri were through to the final to face Roma.

1996 | BATISTUTA KNOCKS INTER OUT

After having beaten Venezia, Fiorenzuola and Lazio, Inter, in 1996, made it to the semis, where they met Claudio Ranieri's Fiorentina. The Viola were inspired in both legs by Batistuta, who ended the season as the top scorer in the competition. The Viola won 3-1 in the first leg in Florence: Batistuta hat-trick and a goal from Ganz. There was to be no comeback at San Siro with Batistuta scoring again. The Viola were through to the final, in which they beat Atalanta.

1988-1989 | EXPANDED COPPA ITALIA

The ‘98/’99 season saw a particularly strange format applied to the Coppa Italia. In order to fill an open calendar after Serie A was postponed due to a clash with the Summer Olympics in Seoul, the format was altered to include two rounds of group-stages, before the knock-out rounds began with the quarter-finals. Sampdoria, who won it that season, played 14 cup games. Inter, who dominated in the league that season, went out in the second round of the group stages, after having got through the first round alongside Ascoli and Brescia, at the expense of Monopoli, Parma and Reggina.

After two draws in the second round with Udinese and Lazio, Inter were knocked out after a 4-3 defeat at homa to Fiorentina. On the scoresheet that day were Matthäus, Borgonovo, Roberto Baggio (brace), Mattei, Morello and Matthäus again.

THE OTHER TIES

In 1978, Inter won the second Coppa Italia title in their history. They faced Fiorentina twice in the second round and topped the group, allowing them to advance to the final. Two draws against the Viola: 2-2 at San Siro (Altobelli and an own-goal) and 0-0 in Florence. Inter went on to beat Napoli in the final.

In 1976/77, Inter lost in the final against AC Milan. The drew 2-2 with Fiorentina in the first round group stage.

The other three fixtures were all in the 1960s. 1-0 to Inter at San Siro in 1967 thanks to a Mazzola goal and two 2-1 Fiorentina wins in 1966 and 1960, with Hamrin involved in both.
