ROME - Just like the very best traditions, Roma vs. Inter was once again full of goals and emotions. It ended in a 2-2 draw, and although Inter only secured the point through a late equaliser, they’ll be disappointed not to have got more from the game after their early opener and two fortunate goals for Roma. Tonight’s draw takes Inter up to second place in the table on 72 points, one clear of Atalanta in third: with four games left to play, Inter have now secured qualification for next year’s Champions League.
Inter opened the scoring early on, de Vrij heading home after just 15 minutes with a perfect connection on Sanchez’s corner. Roma then struck back in injury time of the first half, Dzeko playing in Spinazzola in the area, whose right-footed drive deflected in off de Vrij. A heavily disputed goal after a clear foul on Lautaro in the build-up, but Di Bello wasn’t convinced even after an on-field VAR review. Roma then turned the game on its head in the second half. 13 minutes after the break, Mkhitaryan burst into the box and was first to get to a rebound off Dzeko, tucking past Handanovic from close range to gift the home side the lead. It was Conte’s substitutes combining that led to our equaliser: with four minutes left on the clock, Moses won the penalty before Lukaku stepped up to slot past Pau Lopez. A 2-2 result at full-time which neither side will be happy with, with the Nerazzurri looking to get back to winning ways in their next game on Wednesday 22 July against Fiorentina at San Siro (21:45 CEST kick-off).
