— Dec 24th 2020The stats you need to know following Inter's win against Hellas
Thanks to their 2-1 victory over Verona, Inter ended 2020 with their seventh consecutive league win. Here are all the facts and figures that you need to know following the match.
THE TABLE AFTER 14 MATCHDAYS
For the first time since November 2018, Inter have won seven matches in a row. The Nerazzurri’s recent 21-point haul has seen them move up to 33 points after 14 fixtures, one away from top spot.
Having won ten, drawn three and lost once this campaign, Conte’s men will return to action on 3 January 2021, when they’ll face Crotone at San Siro.
A RECORD-EQUALLING 108 GOALS IN 2020!
Lautaro and Skriniar’s goals were the 107th and 108th that Inter have scored in 2020. From their fixture against Napoli on 6 January to yesterday’s away trip, Inter have played 51 matches and, as already mentioned, netted 108 times, an average of 2.12 goals per game.
Taking into account seasons from 1929/30 onwards, Inter have thus equalled their record goal haul in a calendar year across all competitions: they previously achieved the same tally in 1961 and 2007.
THE BEST ATTACK AND… THE SECOND HALF
After 14 matchdays, Inter have the best attack in the league (34), ahead of Milan (32) and Roma (31). 23 of the Nerazzurri’s 34 goals have been scored in the second half of matches, with no other side in the Top 5 European leagues having netted more after the restart. Each of Inter’s last nine goals in Serie A have been scored during the second 45 minutes.
The last time Inter scored at least 34 goals in their opening 14 league fixtures was in 1960/61.
DE VRIJ, 100 INTER APPEARANCES
Against Verona, Stefan de Vrij made his 100th Inter appearance in all competitions: the Dutchman has featured 74 times in Serie A, twice in the Coppa Italia and on 24 occasions in European competitions. He made his debut on 19 August 2018 (Sassuolo 1-0 Inter) and has gone on to score six goals since.
HAKIMI MAKES HIS MARK AGAIN AND SKRINIAR RETURNS TO THE SCORESHEET
Milan Skriniar netted his fifth goal in an Inter shirt yesterday evening after previously scoring four in 2017/18, his first campaign at the Nerazzurri. He was then unable to find the net during the next two seasons. At the Bentegodi, however, Skriniar returned to the scoresheet for the first time since February 2018 (Inter 2-0 Benevento).
Achraf Hakimi registered another assist in Verona, his fourth of the season. The Moroccan is the only player in their first Serie A campaign to have have scored four goals and registered four assists in 2020/21.
Yesterday evening, Hakimi set up Lautaro Martinez to break the deadlock: six different players have set up the six goals that the Argentine has scored this season.
