MÖNCHENGLADBACH – Against Sassuolo, he was one of the best players on the park. At the Borussia-Park, meanwhile, he enjoyed a brilliant first half. Matteo Darmian scored his first Inter goal this evening in a vital match for the Nerazzurri on their European journey. It was also his first Champions League goal after previously finding the net three times in the Europa League for Torino.
Darmian, who spoke to Inter TV after this evening’s game, was clearly pleased with his goal and the win: “My goal? There was space ahead of me and I moved into it, with Gagliardini picking me out with a lovely pass. I had a go and my shot went through the goalkeeper’s legs. It was an important goal because it allowed us to break the deadlock in a difficult encounter. We knew that today wouldn’t be easy, but I think we produced a good performance and were able to dig in during the most difficult moments. We managed to win a vital fixture.”
Inter’s match against Shakhtar will be decisive: “We knew that we’d have to win both our last two matches, this was the first step. We need to do this again, but we’re feeling positive. There’s the opportunity to make it through and we have to do our duty, as we did tonight.”
