Lautaro, headers and Russian goals: Atalanta 1 - 1 Inter, all you need to know

The 1-1 draw between Inter and Atalanta was part of a trend on matchday seven: out of the top ten sides, only two managed to pick up three points: Napoli and Roma. Inter currently sit on twelve points after seven matches, five off first place.

There were virtually no shots in yesterday’s showdown, a somewhat surprising fact given the attacking nature of the two sides.

Then, Lautaro Martinez broke the deadlock, with the Argentine managing to get on the scoresheet for the first time in four league matches. El Toro has now made 94 appearances for Inter and scored 35 goals, nine of which have been headed efforts. Prior to the match against Atalanta, the last time he’d scored with his head was in Inter’s fixture against Cagliari in January. As was also the case in Bergamo, Ashley Young provided the assist that day.

Lautaro Martinez has had a promising start to the season: he’s found the net four times in Inter’s first seven league fixtures. In both of the previous two Serie A seasons, he'd only found the net twice at this stage. Lautaro has had 17 shots at the beginning of this campaign, ten of which have been on target.

When it comes to headed goals, as was the case last season, Inter are leading the way: the Nerazzurri have scored four headers, more than any other side. D'Ambrosio (twice), Perisic and Lautaro have been the players to get on the scoresheet.

Here’s another interesting fact: Atalanta player Aleksey Miranchuk found the net on his Serie A debut (just like he did on his first Champions League appearance). His goal against Inter was the first time that a Russian player had scored in the Italian top flight since Viktor Boudianski found the net for Ascoli against Palermo in May 2007. Only one Russian player has ever worn the Inter shirt: Igor Shalimov, who bagged 14 goals in 67 appearances for the Nerazzurri. Previously, the last Russian to score against Inter had been Igor Simutenkov on 23 May 1999, when the Nerazzurri ran out 3-1 winners against Bologna at home.
