MILAN - Joining the Inter youth set-up at 13, winning the Torneo di Viareggio at 19. Thus began a young lad's dream of playing football. Then his Primavera coach took charge of the First Team and he got his chance. That coach also happened to be Inter legend Mario Corso.
6 April 1986, Inter vs. AC Milan in a packed San Siro. At the end of the first half, Mario Corso took off Marangon, replacing him with a lad, who he already knew well. A roll of the dice in midfield, sending on a player with energy and enthusiasm. This was Giuseppe Minaudo's Serie A debut.
In the 77th minute, with the score locked at 0-0, Fanna swung in the free kick from the left-hand side; Mandorlini met it with his head and the ball struck the post. The goalkeeper, Terraneo, was in no man's land. Minaudo was the most alert.
This snapshot is clear and encapsulates a unique moment. Tassotti, di Bartolomei, Baresi and Maldini are stunned. Minaudo turns the ball in in a flash. Moments later, the young Giuseppe wheels away in celebration; Giuseppe Bergomi tries to chase him, but it was too great a moment of joy to be confined even by an embrace.
On that day, Minaudo brought home the win for Inter and for his goal Mario Corso, who passed away this year and who we remember with great fondness through the photos taken after full-time - happy and smiling, with his Nerazzurri.
