1949/50
At the beginning of the 1949/50 campaign, Inter emerged victorious in what has gone down in history as the most incredible #DerbyMilano of all time. To this day, it remains the highest scoring Derby fixture. “A dream-like event at San Siro” was the title used by the Gazzetta dello Sport to describe the Nerazzurri’s remarkable 6-5 win. A victory was achieved despite a particularly difficult start: the Rossoneri were two up inside seven minutes (a brace from Candiani, a former Inter player) before extending their advantage to 4-1 after 19 minutes: after Nyers had pulled one back, Nordahl and Liedholm got on the scoresheet for Milan. The Nerazzurri then roared back: Nyers’ second of the game was sandwiched between two goals from Amadei to bring Inter back on level terms. In the 58th minute, Benito Veleno Lorenzi gave the Nerazzurri the lead for the first time, only for Annovazzi to equalise a minute later. Then, with 64 minutes on the clock, Amadei completed his hat-trick to give Inter an incredible win.
