Inter’s draw against Lazio at the Olimpico (match report here) saw the Nerazzurri move up to seven points in Serie A after three matchdays. It was a combative and tense affair, with Milinkovic-Savic cancelling out Lautaro’s first-half opener.
LAUTARO’S GREAT START He scored a magnificent goal against Fiorentina and then followed this up in similar fashion against Benevento. Against Lazio, he showed all his class and ability as he fired into the net with his left foot. Lautaro Martinez has now scored in three consecutive league games, the first time he has achieved this feat for Inter in Serie A.
It’s been an impressive start from the Argentine, who is used to getting off the mark early on: in 2018/19 and 2019/20, Lautaro Martínez scored once in his first three league appearances. This year, he’s already bagged three.
Particularly notable so far is the Argentine’s high conversion rate: not taking into account efforts which were blocked, Lautaro has taken six shots, four of which have been on target and three of which have ended in the net (two from inside the area, one from outside the box and one with his left foot). He’s averaged a goal every 65 minutes out on the pitch.
PERISIC’S ASSIST The man who engineered Lautaro’s goal yesterday afternoon was Ivan Perisic. Now back in Nerazzurri colours after a year spent at Bayern Munich, the Croatian midfielder provided his first Serie A assist since Inter played Genoa in April 2019.
INTER HIT THE WOODWORK FOR THE THIRD TIME Against Benevento, Gagliardini and Eriksen struck the bar. In Rome, meanwhile, Marcelo Brozovic saw his deflected effort agonisingly come off the post, denying Inter the chance to regain the lead. Together with Udinese, the Nerazzurri have now hit the woodwork three times this season, more than any other team.
