MILAN – Six Inter players were named by UEFA among the 23 players in the Europa League Squad of the Season for 2019/20.
Among the selected goalkeepers was Inter captain Samir Handanovic. Inter's number 1 played the most minutes in all competitions of any player at the Club in the 2019/20 season.
Stefan de Vrij is Inter's representative in defence, which is just another recognition for the Dutchman's splendid season, after being named in the Lega Serie A's MVP shortlist and Opta's best XI in the league this season.
We have two midfield players among the 23: Marcelo Brozovic and Nicolò Barella. The Croat is, alongside Sanchez, Inter's highest assist-provider, nine in all competitions (two in the Europa League). Our number 23, meanwhile, scored in four separate competitions this year, and his contribution in the Europa League was a spectacular effort against Bayer Leverkusen.
Finishing the list of six Nerazzurri we have Lautaro Martinez, nominated as "player of the week" after his goal and assist in the semi-final against Shakhtar Donetsk. Romelu Lukaku finished the season on 34 goals. The Belgian even set a new record for goals scored in consecutive UEFA Cup/Europa League games (11) and his goal capped off the rout over Shakhtar and was named among the ten best goals in the Europa League this season.
