MILAN – Diego Godin’s first goal for Inter came with a cool header, and it could not have come any other way. For years, the Uruguayan centre-back has been among the biggest aerial threats in the world, but until today, he was yet to score in a Nerazzurri jersey. His goal, which put Inter into the lead over Torino for the first time, played a key part in our comeback win over the Granata. What’s more, Godin now becomes Inter’s 19th different goalscorer of the season in all competitions. In Serie A, 18 players have got on the scoresheet for Inter: the Nerazzurri have never done better in a single Serie A season (though the current tally is level with 2007/08.)
In the Post-Match Interview with Sky Sport, Godin gave his account of the emotions of the match: “When the going is tough, the most important thing is to come out with the win. Today was a great win, even if we conceded a goal in an unexpected manner. We’re critical of ourselves, but we always look forward, as we can’t keep looking back at our past successes. We’re thinking about keeping our winning streak going: the most important thing is that we try to get the three points in the coming games and we’ll see where that takes us.”
Godin has been in excellent form in recent games: “I feel great, everything seems to be going well and I’m trying to keep this form going, taking each game as it comes. I came here to play an important role, to help the whole squad out both on and off the field, and to bring a winning mentality. I want to stay here at Inter and make a big impact.”
