The Nerazzurri Coach speaking after Wednesday's 3-3 draw with Sassuolo: "We should have closed out the match"

MILAN - Inter’s matchday 27 encounter against Sassuolo ended 3-3 in Serie A on Wednesday evening, in a match that was a match packed with excitement at San Siro. The away side initially took the lead through Caputo before Inter fired back via goals from Lukaku and Biraghi before half-time. Berardi levelled from the spot after the interval while Borja Valero stepped up to score Inter’s third late on. However, it was Magnani who scored the game’s final goal just before the 90th minute, crucially snatching a point for the Neroverdi.

“Obviously, it’s a result that hurts and one that we very much regret,” said Coach AntonioConte after the game. “We had several chances to close the match for good. We managed to turn the game around but then conceded another equaliser, committing too many errors at both ends of the pitch.

“The effort put in was enormous and despite difficulties regarding numerous absentees, especially in midfield, we were on course for the win, so we’re disappointed. We’ve created a lot of chances in our last few matches but haven’t been able to capitalise on them. We need to be more careful because today we also allowed our opponents to have more chances. Details always make the difference and unfortunately we’re being made to pay in this respect.

“The only thing we can do is keep working, looking to raise our game and make sure that these things don’t have a negative impact on what we’re trying to do. If we throw points away then we must try to understand why it happened. We must improve and I know only one way of doing so, hard work. We must try to win all of our remaining matches, regardless of what will happen, because I want the team always aiming for the maximum. I don’t want any regrets, but we have some tonight.”
