AN IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS
Roberto Gagliardini was born in Bergamo on 7 April 1994. He grew up in Atalanta’s youth teams and then went on loan to Cesena, Spezia and Vicenza before returning to Atalanta in the 2016/17 season. Then, in January 2017, he moved to Inter and so far he’s made 88 appearances and scored nine goals for the Nerazzurri. The first of those goals came against Cagliari on 5 March 2017 in a resounding 5-1 win: Gagliardini scored Inter’s fifth goal that day with a stunning strike from 25 yards.
This season, Gagliardini has scored twice in Serie A: once in a 3-1 win at the Ferraris against Sampdoria, and the other in a 4-0 home win over Genoa. It’s the latter, the Rossoblù, who are the midfielder’s favourite opponent having scored five of his nine Nerazzurri goals against them. The midfielder has also managed to provide two assists this season.
As for the shirt number, Roberto Gagliardini has been wearing the no.5 shirt since January 2017. It was previously worn by Felipe Melo in the 2016/17 season, but the Brazilian departed the Club that January, which left the no.5 free for Gagliardini to take having just arrived. Before Felipe Melo, who had worn the no.83 shirt the season before, the no.5 shirt belonged to another Brazilian, Juan Jesus, for two seasons.
