MILAN – Alessandro Bastoni’s season has been full of continual improvement. At just 21 years of age, the left-sided central defender amazed people at first before finding crucial consistency in both minutes and performances on the pitch. His league debut came in the match at the end of September against Sampdoria.
From then on, Bastoni has confirmed his excellence in numbers and statistics: he’s played 17 matches, racked up 1330 minutes, and the Nerazzurri player is the youngest player to have made at least 30 Serie A appearances (38) over the last two seasons.
On the pitch, the defender has showed character and technical ability in playing out from the back, as shown by his 89% pass completion rate, twelve key passes and twelve chances created. Young and impressive, he’s also won 63.75% of his aerial duels, and scored his first Nerazzurri goal in the return match against Lecce.
His work done to protect Samir Handanovic’s goal has been equally impressive, highlighted by his tackles, defensive interventions (32) and important showings such as the one at the San Paolo where Bastoni confirmed himself as one of the key players in that win over Napoli with his 90 minutes that included two goal-saving interventions, one interception, seven duels won, 72 touches, 58 successful passes with over 90% passing accuracy.
A lot of hard work and determination have allowed him to continually improve this season:
“I play football, I chose this path and I’m extremely lucky to do this job, so I go out onto the pitch and try to enjoy myself. I don’t really feel the pressure, just positive tension, pre-game butterflies and the adrenaline that makes this sport unique.”
