All the facts and figures that you need to know with the upcoming matchday 23 clash fast approaching

MILAN – At 20:45 CET on Sunday 9 February, the 172nd #DerbyMilano will take place in Serie A. Inter’s record against Milan reads as follows: 65 wins, 55 draws, 51 defeats. The Nerazzurri have scored 238 goals in league fixtures against their cross-city rivals.

Inter have remained undefeated in their last seven league matches against the Rossoneri, also winning the past three games between the sides. Eleven out of the last twelve goals scored in the #DerbyMilano have come in the second half: the only exception was Vecino’s early third-minute effort in the return fixture last season.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS WITH INTER AS THE HOME TEAM

85 Derby matches have been played at the Meazza with Inter as the home side. The Nerazzurri have won 32 of those games compared to 23 victories for Milan. There have been 30 draws. In the last 14 meetings, Inter have won ten, drawn three and lost on just the one occasion.

FORM

Inter sit on 51 points in the league and haven’t lost in 15 Serie A matches, winning nine and drawing six of those. The last time the Nerazzurri did better than this was in 2017, when they managed to remain undefeated for 18 games before suffering defeat in December. Milan, who have 32 points, haven’t been beaten for five matches (three wins, two draws): this is the Rossoneri’s longest unbeaten run since March 2019 (when they went ten without defeat).

GENERAL STATISTICS

The upcoming Sunday evening clash will see two of the three sides who have kept the most clean sheets this Serie A season face off: along with Verona, both have kept the opposition out on eight occasions.

Inter have scored eight headers so far this season, more than any other side. On the other hand, Milan are the team to have scored the least in this regard (just one). The Nerazzurri have netted the most goals in the opening 30 minutes (16 out of 44) and are the side who have remained in the lead in their matches for the longest amount of time (998 minutes) up to this point. Furthermore, Antonio Conte’s men have only trailed for 107 minutes, less than any other Serie A team.

Only Liverpool and Real Madrid (both 16) have had more goalscorers than Inter in the Top Five European leagues this season. The players currently in Milan’s squad have scored a total of 17 goals, just one more than Romelu Lukaku (16) has netted this campaign.

PLAYER FOCUS

Romelu Lukaku, who found the net in the match between the sides earlier on this season, has scored 16 goals in 22 Serie A fixtures this season. Only two other Inter players have managed to better this tally at this point of the season in their very first Serie A campaign: Stefano Nyers (17) in 1948/49 and Giuseppe Meazza (20) in 1929/30 – the first season when a double round-robin format was used.

Only on one occasion did Sánchez and Lukaku start a Manchester Derby together on the same pitch. This occurred in April 2018 as City ran out 3-2 winners in a match which also saw Ashley Young play from the very beginning.

Milan are the team that Antonio Candreva has played most against in Serie A: the Italian wideman has scored three goals (one for Lazio and two for Inter) against the Rossoneri in 21 games.

Borja Valero bagged his first goal in the Italian top flight against Milan in November 2012 at the Meazza. Back then, the Spaniard was on Fiorentina’s books.

One of the eight goals that Nicolò Barella has scored in Serie A came against Milan in January 2018. Barella is the youngest midfielder to have played at least 100 matches in the Italian top tier since 2014/15.

Marcelo Brozovic’s last Serie A goal came against the Rossoneri earlier on this season. The Croatian midfielder has only scored in both matches against the same side in the same season on one occasion: this happened against Cagliari in 2017/18.

Stefan de Vrij made his Serie A debut as a Lazio player against Milan in August 2014. Udinese (810) are the only side that the Dutchman has played more minutes against than Milan (773). The same defender scored in the return fixture between the teams last season.
