UDINE - Precise and lethal. These are the best two words to describe Romelu Lukaku’s performance against Udinese on Sunday, one that saw the Belgian talisman score both of Inter’s goals during a hard-fought 2-0 win. The first was a ruthless left-footed finish, while the second was an ice-cool penalty.
Lukaku now has 12 away goals in Serie A this season, already equalling his total Premier League tally both home and away from last season. What’s more is that in the three-point era of football, no other player has managed to score 11 goals in their first 11 Serie A matches away from home. In total, the Belgian has bagged 16 in the league, but a grand total of 12 have been on his travels.
During his post-match interview with Sky Sport, Lukaku gave his verdict on the team’s display: “The match against Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia gave us a boost. We knew that it wouldn’t be easy here in Udinese, but in the second half we did well. We managed to score two goals and get all three points. It’s an important victory on our journey. We must now keep this up and turn our attention immediately to the derby against Milan.”
After encouraging his teammates during today’s win, Lukaku was finally quizzed on whether he sees himself a leader within the team: “No, I’m interested in helping the team. I always look to encourage my teammates and I want to have a good relationship with the group.”
