MILAN – After qualifying for the Coppa Italia semi-finals thanks to their win against Fiorentina, the Nerazzurri are now looking ahead to their next fixture: at 20:45 on Sunday 2 February, Inter will face Udinese at the Dacia Arena in Udine.
The matchday 22 Serie A TIM clash will be the 94th meeting between the sides. Inter’s record against the Friulani reads as follows: 46 wins, 26 draws, 21 defeats. The Nerazzurri have won eight of their last ten matches against the team from Udine (one draw, one loss).
PREVIOUS MEETINGS
Having not conceded against Udinese for four consecutive matches, Inter are the team that has kept a clean sheet the most times against a single opposition side since the start of 2018 in Serie A. Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri have scored 66 goals in Udine. The most frequent scoreline between Inter and Udinese in the Italian top flight has been 1-1 (13).
FORM
Along with Liverpool, Inter are one of two sides that are still unbeaten away from home in the Top 5 European Leagues. Antonio Conte could become the first coach in Inter’s history to win nine of his first eleven away fixtures for the Club in Serie A (eight wins and two draws for him so far).
Despite being the side with the highest percentage of points from their home fixtures this Serie A season (71%, 17 out of 24), Udinese are the second-lowest scorers on home turf (ten, one ahead of SPAL on nine). The Friulani haven’t lost at the Dacia Arena since Luca Gotti took charge (two wins, two draws).
GENERAL STATISTICS
Antonio Candreva has scored three goals against Udinese in Serie A (all penalties), two of which came in Udine. The Italian winger made his debut in Serie A for Udinese at home to Inter in January 2008. Samir Handanovic, Kwadwo Asamoah and Alexis Sánchez also all debuted in the Italian top tier while on the Friulani’s books. The Slovenian goalkeeper played 182 league fixtures for Udinese, while the Ghanaian and the Chilean made 114 and 95 appearances for the same side in Serie A respectively.
The first goal that Marcelo Brozovic scored away from home in Serie A came against Udinese in December 2015. The Croatian has netted twice against the Friulani in the competition. Against no other side has he done better in Italy’s top division.
Borja Valero has bagged three goals against Udinese in the league. Taking into account the Top Five European Leagues, Verona (four goals) are the only side the Spaniard has had more success against. The 35-year-old played for the first time in Serie A against the Friulani in August 2012.
Udinese are Stefano Sensi’s favourite victim in Serie A (three goals). If he scores against the team from Udine, it’ll be the first time that the Italian midfielder has netted against the same side in both fixtures in a single season in the Italian top flight.
Christian Eriksen could become the second Danish player to score for Inter in Serie A after Harald Nielsen in 1967/68.
Romelu Lukaku is the first player since Andriy Shevchenko to score ten goals in ten away league fixtures in his first season in Serie A. Since the start of the three-points-for-a-win era, no other player has managed to score more than ten goals in their very first eleven games in Italy’s top tier.
COACHES
The upcoming game will be the first encounter between Antonio Conte and Luca Gotti. Udinese are the side Antonio Conte has achieved the most victories against as a coach in Serie A: seven wins in eight, with the other ending in a draw.
