MILAN - The 2-1 win over SPAL sent Inter top of the Serie A table. Following the league win, Sport CEO Giuseppe Marotta spoke a day after to journalists following a league meeting. “We’re happy because we’re continuing with the journey started this season. Our journey is characterised by the guidelines set by Suning, the ownership deserves great credit because they guarantee financial stability.”
“We had one aim which was to raise the standard and we’re doing it. We’re enjoying the first rewards for our labour but we won’t settle for these results. We’ll work all the way so that this growth process leads to even more satisfaction.” Marotta then commented on Antonio Conte: “As a winner, he always looks to do his best. His language is the same as the one adopted by the Club and management to be more competitive. The players are giving great responses, we don’t look at the table but at performances. Our key point remains the great working culture.”
Marotta then responded to questions about the January transfer window: “We’ll make evaluations and look to support a squad than finds itself short in some areas due to some unfortunate situations with injuries. We’ll see, usually the winter session doesn’t have many opportunities, we’re optimistic but realistic. This is a group that’s worth a lot, both in personal and professional terms and it has shown that it deserves certain recognitions, also thanks to the wisdom of the Coach.”
Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez are in fine form with their goals driving Inter on as Marotta explained: “They’re two players of great value and there’s the right chemistry between them. Here, the influence of the Coach is important as he makes the most our of resources. Romelu and Lautaro have an understanding on the pitch and they’re good friends off it. Lautaro is a really good guy, he is grateful to Inter and Suning who want to grow without losing assets or players. He knows we have faith in him.”
Finally, a comment on the letter about racism signed by all Serie A clubs: “Inter have already developed an excellent campaign and the league is now organising this project against a phenomenon that has to be eradicated.”
