GENOA - A fantastic performance from Thomas Schirò, who scored a hat-trick, was not enough for Armando Madonna’s U-19 team to avoid defeat, as the home team ultimately won the game 4-3. The Ligurian side overcame a 3-1 deficit and, aided greatly by Bianchi’s hat-trick, went on to take all three points. It was Inter’s first league defeat of the season, and now the focus turns towards Wednesday, when they will take on Borussia Dortmund at the Stadio Breda on matchday three of the UEFA Youth League group stages.

Inter started this match in mature fashion: they used the ball well and right from the start both Fonesca and Mulattieri looked dangerous.  A few minutes in, the Inter number 11 did well to get himself into a scoring position but then shot over the bar. In the 23rd minute Madonna’s side took the lead: Colombini fed Schirò and the Nerazzurri captain shifted the ball onto his right and beat Vodisek with a shot that went in off the post. Bianchi had an effort around the half-hour mark, but his attempt was off-target. Genoa drew level in the 41st minute: Kinkoue caught Moro inside the area and Bianchi duly dispatched the penalty past Pozzer.

Thomas Schirò was in the thick of the action when play restarted: the Inter captain scored another two goals to make it 3-1 and in doing so completed his first-ever hat-trick in the Nerazzurri shirt. The match in Genoa was full of entertainment: Zennaro’s right-footed strike deflected off Vaghi and finished in the net as Genoa reduced the arrears in the 63rd minute. A few minutes later, Chiappino’s side had a great chance to equalise, but Bianchi’s effort hit the bar. However, Bianchi wasn’t going to be denied a second: with 75 minutes on the clock, the Grifone captain received the ball just over 20 yards out and fired past Pozzer with his right foot. And things only got worse for Inter in the 91st minute, when Bianchi got his third of the game and Genoa’s fourth. This was a big blow for the Nerazzurri, who were defeated for the first time this season.
