MILAN - “A New Stadium for Milano”, an event in which FC Internazionale Milano and AC Milan presented their two design concepts for the new stadium to the public, along with the plans for a major urban redevelopment project in the surrounding San Siro area.
Inter’s Corporate CEO Alessandro Antonello and AC Milan Chairman Paolo Scaroni met journalists at the event.Nerazzurri Corporate CEO Antonello explained: “The choice of which design to go with will be made in the coming weeks, before which there will be an opportunity for fans and residents to express their opinion through the website nuovostadiomilano.com. After the results come in, we will look at all the relevant factors, and then finally Inter and AC Milan will make a decision based on the two main criteria of aesthetics and functionality.
“The timeline of the project will abide by the timings dictated by the laws on stadiums. We’ll continue with the project: once all the approvals from the Public Administration have been obtained, estimates say that the construction period should last no longer than 36 months. The aim is to be finished by 2023-2024. Certainly before the Olympic Games.
“It’s an important investment for Milano, the project aims to bring the San Siro area to life for 365 days a year. We’re convinced that it’s the right decision to stay in the San Siro area, we hope that the institutions can understand the importance of this. With this, we’ve thought about the future and the next generations.”
AC Milan Chairman Scaroni added: “I’m convinced that we’ll make it to the end of this journey. In the last 70 years, Inter and AC Milan have shared the stadium with well-established and profitable co-management. To have a stadium that is used often is a healthy decision, also from an environmental perspective. Furthermore, a project of this financial size needs two powers collaborating.”
