ALTOPASCIO – After drawing against Braga in their opening match, Inter’s Under-19 side beat Cagliari 2-0 in their second group game in the 71st Viareggio Cup, with goals from Mulattieri and Ntube being enough to see off Max Canzi’s charges. Following this evening’s win, Armando Madonna’s team only need a draw in their final game in Group 1 against A.P.I.A. Leichhardt to qualify for the last 16.
Cagliari had the first big chance of the match in the fifth minute, but Pozzer was there to deny Gagliano. Inter responded through Mulattieri, who shot wide from a good position. After 36 minutes, Doratiotto’s sweet right-footed strike stung the gloves of Giacomo Pozzer. The rest of the half was played out without any real goalmouth action and the teams went into the break with the score at 0-0.
Inter took the lead early on in the second half as Samuele scored with a lovely half-volley following a scramble in Cagliari’s penalty area. Just after the hour-mark, the Nerazzurri looked to counter through Mulattieri, but this time he was unable to find the back of the net. Cagliari then went on the attack in search of an equaliser, but their play lacked precision and Inter were able to comfortably control the tempo of the game. In the 88th minute, Ntube killed off the match as he rather fortuitously converted Roric’s cross. There were no further goals as Armando Madonna’s side recorded a 2-0 win over the Sardinians.
