SESTO SAN GIOVANNI - Inter vs. Fiorentina today took place at the Stadio Breda, with the Viola running out 1-0 winners in the first leg of the Primavera TIM Cup semi-final. Meli’s goal proved decisive in Sesto San Giovanni, with the second fixture now set to be played next month at the Buozzi in Florence. The winner will take on one of either Atalanta or Torino in the final, with their first leg finishing 4-3 to the team from Bergamo.
Following the match, the Under-19 Coach spoke alongside Nerazzurri striker Eddie Salcedo:
Armando Madonna: “It was a negative result today but we must look to the return leg with confidence. We conceded too much to our opponents during the first half and they deservedly took the lead. We were more determined after the break and I was pleased with how the team performed. Unfortunately, we were just lacking a goal. Fiorentina are a physical side, but we also have the quality to compete at equal measure. There were too many technical errors during the match, largely due to the condition of the pitch, while we also lacked precision. We must not be discouraged, but instead get back out onto the pitch with yet more determination.”
Eddie Salcedo: “This is only the first leg and we must learn from this defeat before getting back in training thinking about the next game. We always need to give 100 percent and that is what we’ll do in the next match. We know that we’re a good side and we want to reach our objectives.”
