Club
— Aug 23rd 2018All teams will wear special shirts for Genoa this weekend in honour of those who lost their lives in the Morandi bridge collapse
GENOA - Genova nel cuore (Genoa in our hearts): This will be the phrase on every shirt in Serie A this weekend, for both players and match officials. This will be to pay respect to the victims of the Morandi bridge collapse and to support the city of Genoa.
“As a sign of participation and solidarity with the victims of the tragedy of Genoa, Serie A will establish, as already announced, a fund that will be allocated to the needs of the Genovese people, in agreement with the authorities,” said Lega Serie A President Gaetano Miccichè. "To demonstrate our closeness and to dedicate our thoughts to the victims of the Morandi bridge and their families, in all the second round matches the players and the referees will take the field with a commemoration shirt to express that everyone's heart is with Genoa.”
Meanwhile, Genoa mayor Marco Bucci said: "On behalf of the wounded city of Genoa, one that is already ready to recover and react with pride, I thank you for this initiative which has great significance for us. It moves us to feel so much solidarity coming from many parts, helping us to move forward with courage and determination, and above all, it is good for the soul of this city.”
“It’s a lovely gesture from the footballing world,” said Liguria Governor Giovanni Tori. “We are pleased that every player will be sending a message of hope and for the rebirth of our city. Genoa is in the hearts of everyone.”
