The event on 21st March on International Day For The Elimination of Racial Discrimination featuring Zanetti and Toldo

MILAN - 21st March 2018: It’s the world day against racism in memory of the 1960 Sharpeville massacre and it’s not an occasion to be missed in terms of raising awareness for younger generations about the fight against racial discrimination. For many years, FC Internazionale Milano has taken part in the ‘Io tifo positivo’ [I support positively] campaign together with the Council of Milan and the Comunità Nuova association. Taking place at schools and sports clubs, the project aims to combat all expressions of intolerance, discrimination and racism at every level of competition while promoting a positive sporting culture that demonstrates the true values of sport.

In the wake of this project, an event was held yesterday for around 400 young people with #TweetOffRacism with the message that We are brothers of the world at the Holocaust Memorial in Milan as it’s a place representative of the damage caused by racial hatred. Vice-President Javier Zanetti, Beppe Bergomi, Roberta Guaineri, Assessor for Tourism, Sport and Quality of Life at the Council of Milan, Don Gino Rigoldi, the Comunità Nuova President. Also presente were Alberto Bassani and Alessandro Albiero, Community Relations and Partnership Management Supervisor at the club respectively.

After a moment of reflection at the memorial, the participants attended the one-man theatrical show 'Invasione di Campo' [pitch invasion] by the actor Soldani that told stories from the world of sport during the time of racist persecutions during the 1940s.

The event was brought to a close by various talks with the aim of helping the young people to further understand what they had seen and provide wider perspective in regard to the current day.

"We felt extraordinary emotion today in this ‘special’ place," said the Vice-President of FC Internazionale Milano Javier Zanetti. "It’s the place itself that speaks to us of the people who passed through here and it tells us that every form of racism is against humanity. Inter was born with this story in its blood. We are brothers of the world. Our founding fathers left us with this 110 years ago and this is the message that we want to carry forward today."
