Three wins from three for Stefano Vecchi's Under-19s thanks to goals from Marzupio and Visconti. Round of 16 scheduled for Wednesday

ALTOPASCIO – Stefano Vecchi’s side won the third match in the group stage to finish Group 3 on full points at the Coppa Carnevale. In the final match, the Nerazzurri beat Salernitana 2-0 thanks to goals from Marzupio and Visconti. Inter finish with nine points, eight goals scored and zero conceded as they progress to the Round of 16 that begins on Wednesday 21st March.

Stefano Vecchi’s Under-19s started at lighting speed as Davide Merola went close in the first minute as he made his way into the box before looking to catch out Capasso in goal who saved with his feet. In the 17th minute, Salernitana pushed forwards as a cross-cum-shot from Tucci put Pozzer in difficulty but he was able to put it out for a corner.

In the 22nd minute, the Nerazzurri took the lead through Marzupio who did well to head home after routine by Rada and Corrado. The ball was played in perfectly in the air for the defender wearing the number 25 shirt who was able to score his first Inter goal. Just before 30 minutes had gone, Merola did well to create space for himself with a nutmeg but the eventual shot was too central and Capasso was there to save.

Ten minutes from the end of the half, Adorante and D’Amico went close to double the lead. Salernitana missed the target with a dangerous free kick in the 40th minute. Vecchi’s side found the second goal on 44 minutes. The midfielder beat Capasso with a great left-foot shot from 20 metres out to send his team into the break two goals to the good.

The second half began with the teams unchanged and Merola narrowly missed the chance to make it 3-0. On 70 minutes, a good strike from Totaro was miraculously kept out by Pozzer. A few minutes later, Capasso did very well to deny Merola.

Merola continued to look to score in the final 15 minutes and he had two futher chances to net his third at the tournament. At the end, Inter defended the lead well and won for the third time in as many matches to finish the group stage on full points. It ended 2-0 thanks to Marzupio and Visconti’s first-half goals.
